The Vertical Leap Value Acceleration Model ™
The Vertical Leap Value Acceleration Model™ overviews the major components required to translate an organization’s mission into desired outcomes. It blends the “whats” (value drivers) with the “hows” (strategy orchestration competencies) that accelerate an organization’s ability to drive value in the marketplace. Their effective integration stimulates the organizational learning and adaptation that is so critical in our complex business environment. And, the resulting learning and adaptation fuel new efforts as the cycle continues. In this model, strategic planning and orchestration are viewed as on-going activities, not periodic events.
Strategic Framework Whether you utilize our model or we help you create your own, your strategic framework should have the strengths of a balanced scorecard (i.e. a blend of internal, external, short and long term perspectives). But, more than that, it creates a laser focus on what most drives value for your various stakeholders. That is, it must take into consideration such things as customer logic, product/program logic, economic logic, organizational adaptation and resiliency, etc. Using such a framework, the organization should be able to “map” (see PDF in toolbox) its processes and key initiatives directly to its “value drivers”. When your framework is used consistently in all planning and performance processes — stakeholders really “get it”. Inconsistency, merely results in them being overwhelmed with too many messages in too many formats. How your brand promise, offerings and market share stack up to the competition and marketplace expectations. Surfacing insights that help you differentiate yourself in the marketplace and translate compelling opportunities into actionable, break-through strategies.
Creating an organizational architecture and infrastructure that ensures fluid resource management to support your strategy. Aligning your operating structures, enabling technologies, core processes, organizational culture, and human capital systems with your organization’s vision, operating principles and strategy.
Getting everyone on the same page about what most drives value in your marketplace, and mobilizing the commitment of investors, governance, strategic partners, customers and staff. Increasing clarity about the vision, values and operating principles, so as to integrate the diverse interests of your business stakeholders and stimulate a shared commitment to the organization’s success. Creating an environment in which each stakeholder feels valued, respected, appreciated and perceives a fair ROI for his/her investment of time, resource or capital. This frequently involves identifying needs and synergies, building appropriate expectations, nurturing relationships, overcoming resistance and providing effective feedback mechanisms. Aligning your business stakeholders, with their differing agendas, is critical. It allows the organization to move in what Wake Forest University Basketball Coach Skip Prosser calls "a singular direction; that vertical concentration it takes to be successful". You must continually be in touch with the many motivations that pull people in different directions and cause their interests and priorities to shift.
Execution! Achieving financial success and operational excellence, and accelerating momentum through performance assessment and reinforcement.
